Greeting from Andrew Dabeka

July 31, 2007 8:15 AM

Dear Friends,

I have been in Kuala Lumpur for almost a week now. We (Peter Koukal, a Czech player, and myself) have acclimatized well to the training and our new apartment, which we have rented for the month. The great part of it is that it is literally across the street from our training hall, which has so far saved a ton of energy and time. For those of you who were recently added to my emailing list, I was training in Kuala Lumpur for 6 weeks in December and January. At that time, we were having to drive 30min to the training hall and then 30min back, each day. Starting training between 5:45 and 6:15am, you can imagine how early we had to wake up!

The training has been great thus far. It is always a bit of a balancing act to keep working on the things that I practice back home in Ottawa, within the framework of the drills that are done here. A lot of communication with the coaches is a must, so that I am not wasting anytime on court doing drills which for my game-plan, have no place.

The Worlds are fast approaching, starting on the 13th of August - just over two weeks to go. The stadium where we will be playing is a 10,000+seater; it will be massive, by badminton standards. Just imagine watching a badminton match from the nose-bleed section of the ScotiaBank Place! Peter and I are going to be doing our best the next two weeks to make a few trips down there to scope what the wind conditions will be like and to possibly even practice there once or twice...

Well, it is 8:15pm and I am beat. I will be getting up at 5am tomorrow, so I must rest now and say goodbye.

All the best for now!

Andrew
